M6 Junction 18

Junction 18 is on the Cheshire section of the M6 opened in Late 1963, it is a classic roundabout above the motorway. Although as a junction with the A54 it could have assumed some importance, the A54 is little more than a local A road between Chester and Buxton. The junction gained its importance from being the southern junction for Chester, the historic city and county town near the Welsh border. However even this has now been taken away with the opening of the A500 from junction 16 to join the A51 as the main southern route from the M6 to Chester, this junction has become more a local junction for several small Cheshire Towns, although still signposted to Chester on the northbound carriageway.
